Federal Skilled Worker

The federal skilled worker class is one of the economic immigration streams (IRPR s.75) aimed at attracting qualified skilled workers to come to Canada. Professionals include nurses, engineers, doctors, teachers, dentists, accountants, and more.

The first thing we advise you to do when verifying your eligibility as a FSW is to check that your job title and description match  the job description as set out by National Occupation Classification Matrix of Canada (NOC).

The focus is heavily on the duties as titles might vary from country to country.

The skilled worker must have the potential to be economically successful in Canada and intend to reside in a province other than Quebec to qualify for the federal skilled worker program.

Not only does a foreign national have to be eligible for this immigration stream, there needs to be no factors that renders them inadmissible (IRPA s. 33-42) to Canada.

The eligibility criteria used to determine if a foreign national has the ability to be economically successful in Canada are:

  • Language skills

  • Education

  • Work Experience

  • Age

  • Arranged employment

  • Adaptability

For further details on eligibility criteria, visit: FSW Eligibility Criteria

Once eligible as a federal skilled worker, a foreign national can go ahead and create an express entry profile. The comprehensive ranking system will be used to now evaluate points a federal skilled worker can obtain.

Review our Express Entry page for further details.

Note that you can combine Provincial Nomination with the federal skilled worker program to secure more points in your express entry profile.

We are glad to further explain the eligibility criteria, explain how you can secure the required documentation, break down your points for FSW eligibility, show you your potential express entry score, explain how you can get more points and more.

If you must take any advice from our website, remember this:

"As long as the applicant is not able to provide sufficient evidence to convince the immigration officers that they have applied within the objective of the Canadian immigration act, they will more than likely deny the application"
